Audace Collection by Salis

Italian European Oak Flooring for High-End Home Remodels in Palo Alto and Silicon Valley

The Audace Collection by Salis is a European oak flooring system for homeowners and architects who want a floor with genuine character. Where most wood flooring smooths away the marks of time, Audace leans into them, surface treatments that accentuate the wood’s natural discolorations, irregularities, and tonal depth, all protected by Salis’s patented Legnoresina® Pietra technology.

Salis describes Audace as the unruly side of Armonico: the same European oak, the same performance, but with a surface that shows the material in a more raw and expressive state. It is a collection for spaces where warmth, texture, and authenticity matter more than uniformity.

At European Cabinets & Design Studios, Audace is specified as part of our design-build remodeling process, coordinated alongside Italian cabinetry, countertops, and architectural finishes for a cohesive result throughout the home.

THE PALETTE

11 Colors: From Cool to Warm

Audace is available in 11 tones balanced around a central white-neutral, moving toward cooler tones on one side and warmer tones on the other. Each color is expressed through the collection’s distinctive surface treatment, which accentuates the natural discolorations and grain variation of the wood rather than evening them out.

This means no two floors will look exactly the same, the tone you choose interacts with the specific character of the oak beneath it, making Audace well suited to projects where a handcrafted, one-of-a-kind result is the goal.

Because the surface treatment is more expressive than a standard finish, Audace benefits from being viewed in person alongside cabinetry samples and wall finishes before specifying. Our Palo Alto showroom carries samples across the full palette.

PATTERN AND SELECTION

One Pattern, Considered Carefully

Audace is offered in a single installation pattern: the classic plank. The decision to offer only one pattern is intentional, the surface treatment and color variation carry enough visual interest on their own that additional geometry would compete rather than complement.

The plank format works across a wide range of interior scales, from the open-plan kitchens and living areas common in Palo Alto and Silicon Valley homes to more intimate bedroom and study spaces. It is a floor that earns attention through material quality rather than pattern complexity.

HOW WE SPECIFY AUDACE

Audace as Part of Our Design-Build Remodeling Process

At European Cabinets & Design Studios, Audace is specified as part of a full-service design-build remodeling process, supplied and installed alongside cabinetry, countertops, and architectural finishes rather than as a standalone purchase. Flooring selection typically happens during the cabinetry design phase, when color temperature and material relationships across the whole home are being actively worked out.

FAQ SECTION

Frequently Asked Questions About Audace Flooring

How does Audace differ from the Armonico Collection? Both are European oak flooring systems by Salis, protected by the same Legnoresina® Pietra technology, and available in 11 tones. The difference is in the surface. Armonico has a cleaner, more refined finish that works well in modern and contemporary interiors where consistency is the goal. Audace has a more expressive surface treatment that accentuates the wood’s natural irregularities, discolorations, and grain variation. It is the better choice when warmth and character take priority over uniformity.

Is Audace suitable for high-traffic areas? Yes. The Legnoresina® Pietra surface delivers up to 6x greater wear resistance than standard hardwood finishes, which means the expressive surface treatment holds up well over time. It does not require the careful maintenance that traditional hardwood demands and has been independently tested for use in kitchens and bathrooms.

Can Audace be installed throughout an entire home? Yes, and the single plank format makes it straightforward to run continuously through kitchens, living areas, dining rooms, and bedrooms. The tonal variation within each board means the floor develops a natural rhythm across large areas rather than looking repetitive.

When should flooring be selected during a renovation? Earlier than most people expect, ideally during the cabinetry design phase, not at the end. Flooring runs through the whole home, so its tone and undertone affect how every other finish reads. Getting it on the table early means you’re making decisions in the right order, not retrofitting a floor to cabinetry that’s already been ordered. Learn more about how our process works →

Where can I view Audace samples? At our Palo Alto showroom at 864 San Antonio Rd. Since the surface treatment and tonal variation in Audace are best appreciated in person, we recommend booking a design consultation or dropping in to look at samples alongside other finishes.

ABOUT THE MANUFACTURER

About Salis: Italian Pioneers in European Oak Flooring

Salis has been manufacturing prefinished European oak flooring in Italy for decades, building a reputation on material innovation and environmental responsibility. Their development of the Legnoresina® system was a direct response to a longstanding problem in hardwood flooring: surface finishes that look great initially but degrade faster than the wood beneath them. By integrating protection into the oak structure itself, Salis extended the functional lifecycle of their floors and reduced the need for refinishing or replacement.

Audace represents Salis’s most characterful expression of that technology. Legnoresina® Pietra is certified to the best class for indoor air quality under VOC ISO 16000-9:2006, contains no formaldehyde or pentachlorophenol, and carries a silver ion antibacterial treatment that reduces bacterial load by 99.9%. It has been independently tested against more than 90% of common household stains and is validated for use in kitchens and bathrooms. View all flooring collections →
